There are times when I have been contacted by a potential client that sees my work, in a magazine article, exhibit, or through referrals. They may be looking for a particular size or subject matter which requires a collaborative process in order to create a painting to their exact specifications.
I will include the client from start to finish. Once the specifications, including size, color, medium has been agreed upon, you will see photos, sketches, and a color study. When the color study has been approved for final work, a 50% of agreed purchase price is required followed by the balance due upon delivery. Prices will vary according to medium and size of painting. I guarantee that each commission is never complete until the client is satisfied.
Pet Portraits
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul I capture not just the look but your pet’s personality as well. I start out getting to know the animal with my camera. Spending enough time to get just the right photo or photos to work from. And, yes, I can also work from existing photos. Several clients have shed tears when seeing their commissioned portrait for the first time. The ultimate compliment. Being a pet owner myself, I understand just how important that relationship is.
Landscapes
This work was commissioned by Mark and Terri Haddix of San Anselmo, California. They started collecting my work about seven years ago. At one show, after purchasing their fifteenth piece they said to me “We need to move so we can have more wall space to expand our collection of your work.” We all had a good giggle. Then about a year later they called a asked me over to see there new home, and talk to me about a large space in the living room that was in need of a painting.
“While we were first drawn to the impressionist quality of Barbara’s pastel landscapes, her recent oil pieces have an altogether unique texture. Indeed we have her “Live Oak” painting in both media and while the subject is the same, each painting has a distinctive character. We are also fans of her portraiture; she has created pastel portraits of three of our kitties. Her ability to capture the absolute essence of each of our “critters” was truly awe inspiring (and frankly brought tears to our eyes).”
